A very popular stage run in Denmark is called Stage Bornholm. A yearly event taking place on the summer island in the Baltic Sea called Bornholm.
The main stage run is a five day race: starting Monday July 21st 2025 in Hasle with a 10 km forest and town run, then Tuesday moving to the Dueodde Beach with 5,8 km sand and dunes, Wednesday a 7,8 km hilly forest route in Almindingen, Thursday it is the King stage with 8,6 km in the northern part of the island where it goes more or less constant up and down with the finish line at the light house and it means the last 500 meter has a 80 meter upwards climbing. It all ends Friday with 10 km in Rønne (capital of Bornholm) here the majority of the route is on asphalt but also nice part in the forest – the finish line is at the athletic stadium. Calculating all this together it gives a marathon distance over the 5 days.
Bornholm Runners had again Kim representing us on the entire 5 stages run. With a total of 4 hours 13 minutes and 49 seconds he came in as a number 584 of 769 men finishing all 5 stages. Well done
During this event there is also a children race, they are running 3 days; Monday in Hasle 3,4 km, Wednesday in the Almindingen 2,9 km and finally Friday in Rønne with 4,2 km. Kims daughter Selma participated in this event and finished in a total time of 1 hour 19 minutes and 39 seconds. Great to see that we also have the active young runners.
For the more experiences there is also a group called 60+. Here they run also 3 stages; Tuesday the 5,8 km beach run at Dueodde, Thursday the King stage with 8,5 km „mountain route” and ending up Friday with the 10 km in Rønne. Jesper who was on vacation on his birth island had not signed in for Stage Bornholm. However after hard pressure from his nephew Kim, Jesper found and bought a free start number. Jesper signed in for the 60+ group.
As always Kim and Jesper had their nephew – uncle competition and the first 2 common races (Beach and mountain) Kim won over Jesper, but yet not with a huge difference. Friday with the finish line at the stadium where Jesper has spent so much of his young age the atmosphere was warm before start. Here we also had company of Michal who flew in to join us in our last week of vacation. We were very sure Michal would win among the three runners from Bornholm Runners and expectations was that Kim would be a solid number 2. The start took off, Michal disappeared and the same did Kim.
However around half way, in the forest Jesper could suddenly see Kim in front of him. During the next kilometers he got closer and closer. At the entrance to stadium they came shoulder by shoulder.
Kim got surprised and accelerated and crossed finish line before Jesper BUT Kim also started earlier than Jesper, so finally Jesper managed to beat his nephew with only few seconds. More important however was that Jesper managed to end as a total number 6 in the 60+ group with a total time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 46 seconds. Talking about seconds – Jesper was only 7 seconds from number 5! Here should be mentioned that only 16 finished in the group 60?
