Running weekend Faroe Island June 1st 2025

Bornholm Runners had 3 runners participating in the running event in Torshavn, Faroe Island, Denmark on June 1st 2025. It was originally planned for 2024 but due to a general strike the 3 decided to move the participation to 2025.

Greta was going for the 5,5 km city run while Darren and Jesper was signed in for the Half Marathon distance.

Greta and Jesper went to the Faroe Island for an entire week and enjoyed the incredible nice nature of the islands.

The weather is a chapter of itself on Faroe Island. In June it should of course be early summer but yet temperature is around 10 Celcius and with the wind the feeling temperature is even lower. So wearing winter clothes was the solution for traveling around.

On Thursday May 29th Jesper has a route test running with the local Mikkeller Running Club Torshavn. Here they ran the 5,5 km city route which beside being the race distance for Greta also would be the first part of the half marathon. During this test run Jesper realized how hilly the race would be!

Getting closer to the race day on June 1st the weather forecast indicated: rain and wind of 14 m/s but with max of 20 m/s – not the best weather conditions for running

The 3 representatives from Bornholm Runners agreed to meet at the start area and there it was time for the official group picture before start – all distances was planned to start at 13.00 local time.

Greta made her 5,5 km city run in 45 minutes and 52 seconds and ended 3rd in her age group (even as she worked as photographer during the run 🙂

While Greta was done with her run Darren and Jesper had their struggles out on the windy route of half Marathon. Even when running downhill the wind made it difficult to run normally!

After some 13 km the turning point was reached and they could start running back towards Torshavn city center. With backwind it was a little more human and it was possible enjoying a little bit of the fantastic nature

Jesper finished the Torshavn Half Marathon in 2.00.59 and with the conditions in mind he was very satisfied with the result

A fantastic trip to Faroe Island was getting to its end and with a couple of beers at the Irish Pub in the race evening it was time to say „See you again in Cardiff later this year”

No visit at Faroe Island without a picture of the locals 🙂

No doubts that we all can recommend to visit Faroe Island as well as running one of the distances of the running event done every year.
